Paleo pizza

As much as substitutes for ‘regular’ food (and by this I mean the food that society sees as ‘normal’!) is not the greatest idea, sometimes though, a girl’s just gotta have some pizza!

Enter, the paleo cauli-crust. There are sooooo many recipes out there that it’s hard to know which one to try out first. I have tried a few, some were complete disasters (I’m not a fan of the ‘cauli-mash’ pizza…) and some were good. I’ve not tried nutritional yeast as yet – I do want to though and see what the ‘cheesy’ fuss is about. Hey … I’m new to all this, so I’m working my way through !!

*I also have a recipe for a pumpkin pizza crust if you want an alternative to the cauli crust. It’s very easy to do and so delicious !

So here it is. In all it’s cauli glory.

What you need

1 cauliflower (grated/steamed/squeezed in cloth)

1 egg white (you can use the whole egg)

2 tblspns coconut flour

1/2 tspn turmeric (I love it, it adds colour, but this is optional)

Pinch of dried herbs of your choice for added flavour

Salt to taste

You can add nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavour but that’s up to you

What you need to do

1. Steam and squeeze the cauliflower.

2. Mix the rest of the ingredients into the cauliflower. Allow to rest for 10 minutes.

3. Spread onto your lined baking try (I use a silicone baking mat – makes life easy!).

3. Bake for about 10- 15 minutes. Remove when edges have browned.

4. Add toppings of your choice.

5. When toppings are cooked to your liking, remove from oven. Allow to cool slightly, and enjoy!

*if you want to, you can slide the pizza off the silicone mat onto the pizza tray, and bake for a further 5 minutes to dry the base further.

This should satisfy any carb-craving you may have! You don’t even realise that you’re eating a ‘Paleo Pizza’ – it tastes so good that you’d be forgiven for eating it all, in one siting, and not even giving a toss!
