Meat Bagels! (Paleo, Gluten free, Grain free) 

Imagine my excitement when I came across this recipe for Meat Bagels by Ditch the Wheat. The original Meat Bagel recipe can be found by clicking on the link – I’ve modified mine slightly purely because I did not have any paleo tomato sauce on hand so I deconstructed it a bit. All praise to Carol  Lovett of Ditch The Wheat for this idea – it’s absolutely fantastic! 


Recipe for Paleo Meat Bagels

Yield: 4 bagels

Prep time: 10-15 minutes

Cooking time: 40 minutes

What you need 
1/2 onion, chopped finely 
1 tspn ghee/olive/coconut oil (to fry onion)

500g minced meat (I used beef)

2 large eggs

1/4 cup tomato paste

1 tblspn apple cider vinegar 

1 tblspn mustard powder

1 tspn paprika

1 tspn crushed garlic

Salt and pepper to taste

What you need to do

1. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Line an oven dish (I use a Pyrex). 

2. Heat ghee or oil in pan, over medium heat. Add onions and sautee until soft and lightly browned. Allow to cool. 

3. In a mixing bowl, add all the ingredients, including cooled onions. 

4. Mix well until everything is well combined. Divide into 4 portions. Form a ball with each, then make a hole in the centre, and create a bagel. Place into oven dish. 

5. Bake for approx 30- 40 minutes, until the meat is cooked. Remove fr oven and allow to cool. 

6. Slice as you would a bagel, fill with fillings of your choice, and you’re done! 

I used lettuce, tomato, and avo.
