Paleo Cacao Avocado Mousse [Gluten free,Grain  free, Dairy free]

Have too many ripe avocados at once? This is never actually a problem, and even less so when you whip them up with some chocolate for a super quick and easy paleo chocolate dessert

I usually add half an avo and some cacao to my smoothies when I want something creamier and more like the texture of a double thick milkshake… Mmmmmm! So when I saw recipes for a chocolate avocado mousse, I decided to give it a shot. I read through many – because there are MANY varieties and ways of doing it. As usual for me, I then just went into the kitchen and started throwing things together. 

The consistency is light and fluffy, airy and smooth… It’s not sickeningly sweet, and you don’t get a mouthful of mushy avocado. You may need to adjust the sweetness to suit your taste though, although I’m happy with the dark chocolatey, slightly bitter taste of the recipe below.  


Recipe for Paleo Cacao Avocado Mousse

Yield: approx 4 servings (depends on the size you make!) 

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cooking time: 2-3 hours (in the fridge) although this isn’t entirely necessary – they can be eaten straight away 

What you need

2 small ripe avocados 

1/3 cup raw cacao powder 

1/3 cup coconut cream (chilled overnight in the fridge)

1/4 cup date paste

2 tblspns raw honey

1 tspn chia seeds

1/2 tspn cinnamon 

Few drops vanilla extract

Pinch of salt 

Optional: a pinch of cayenne, or mint, or even some orange zest for flavour variations 

What you need to do 

1. Add the flesh of the avocados and all ingredients into a blender. Blend until smooth. 

2. Decant into individual portions or as one larger pudding. Refigerate for a few hours before serving for best results (or serve as is if you can’t wait!).
