Gluten free Chickpea Flour Pizza Base

Looking for a healthier alternative to pizza? Try this budget friendly chickpea flour pizza – it is SENSATIONAL!

Being school holidays, the kids seem to be constantly hungry! So I’m stumped for ways to keep them entertained and fed and interested in what I’m actually cooking. Pizza is a firm favourite for them both – but a cauli pizza? Well, it doesn’t go down that easily I’ll be honest! I had some chickpea flour in the cupboard so decided to finally give it a try. I was a bit sceptical, but WOW! It tastes absolutely amazing and delicious ! 

I do use yeast in this recipe and it lends itself to an authentically pizza-ish taste ๐Ÿ˜‰ Now – this is not Paleo … not by a long shot! But my issue isn’t grains, my issue is gluten, so chickpeas are A-ok for me. Outside of REBOOT, this is a fantastic alternative for me and the family. And the kids are scoffing it down so YAY for chickpea pizza ๐Ÿ˜„ 

I used leftover roast chicken breasts and peppers as toppings but you can use your favourites ๐Ÿ˜‰  

Recipe for Gluten free Chickpea Flour Pizza Base

Yield: one 20cm pizza base

Prep time: 20-30 mins 

Cooking time: 15 minutes 

What you need 

2 cups chickpea flour 

3.5g active yeast (half a sachet) 

3/4 cup hot water and milk, mixed 

1 tbsp raw honey 

1 tsbp olive oil 

Pinch of salt 

What you need to do 

1. Make the dough – mix all the dry ingredients together, then add wet ingredients to form dough. Knead, cover, and allow to rest in a warm spot. Preheat oven to 180ยฐC. 

2. Once it’s risen about 0.5 times the original size and softer, roll between 2 sheets of baking paper into a pizza base. 

3. Prick with a fork and bake for 10 minutes. 

4. Top with tomato, cheese and toppings of your choice and stick it back in the oven for a further 10-15 minutes, or until cheese has melted. 

5. Remove from oven, allow to cool slightly, slice, and serve!! I added some avo slices to mine and OH MY WORD! YUM!!!!!!!
